Parish Hall Fundraising Up-date, October 2011
One of biggest challenges facing the parish community in the last few years has been raising the money to pay for the restoration and extension of the Parish Hall. As a Grade II listed building everything had to be done to the highest standards making it an expensive project.
In 2002 the Diocese of Brentwood offered the Parish a ten year interest free loan to the parish if it could prove it could raise the £35,000 to £40,000 a year required to pay it off.
A fundraising team was brought together during 2003 and with almost £80,000 raised in the by the end of 2004, the go ahead was given for the work to start and the hall was re-opened in July 2005. Since then the fundraising has continued and the total now stands at almost £385,000 – leaving just £65,000 to go.
There have been two distinct phases to the fundraising. From 2002 to the end of 2008 the majority of the money that went into the hall fund came from the many events organised by the Parish Hall Fundraising Team, supplemented by an early £10,000 donation.
From 2009 onwards the annual surplus now generated by the parish has also contributed now that the parish has paid off the £60,000 debt it had at the beginning of the last decade. This means that we have been able to accelerate towards the final target.
Over the past year or two we have been further helped by additional legacies and donations totaling £60,000.
At the current rate we expected to finally pay off the hall debt towards the end of 2013, bang in line with the original 10 year plan.
